Heard a kid at the park in Denver call something 'mid' and had to look it up

I was on my route near City Park last week and overheard a group of teens talking. One said a new song was 'mid,' which I thought was short for middle. Turns out it's slang for something average or not that good, like a C grade. When did that become a thing? Is this just a local Denver phrase or is it everywhere now?

Oh man, grayc27 is right that it's been around a minute, but calling it "mid" for two years is pushing it. That term blew up way faster than that. It felt like it was everywhere online all at once maybe a year ago. It definitely isn't just a Denver thing, I hear it from my younger cousins in Florida too. It's one of those words that just spreads like crazy on social media.
