Heard a 19 year old call a bad haircut 'a choppy' at the shop in Reno, now I can't stop hearing it
I was waiting for a trim at a place on Wells Ave in Reno two weeks ago and the guy in the next chair kept going on about how his last cut was 'a whole choppy.' I figured it was just him until I heard two other guys at my gym say it about their own fades within the same week. Turns out it's a whole thing now, 'a choppy' is the noun, and it means a cut that came out uneven, not just short. I started saying it and my barber stared at me like I grew a second head, so now I'm torn on whether I'm in on it or just two years too late. Where did you all first hear it, and does it still mean a bad cut or has it moved on to something else already?
So your barber looked at you like you grew a second head because you probably did, just not the kind you were hoping for. Calling a bad fade "a choppy" sounds like something a guy made up while waiting too long for his turn in the chair. My guess is it started as one dude's inside joke and now everybody at the gym is running with it like it's been around for years. Give it six months and it'll mean something totally different, like a bad haircut plus a bad attitude or whatever. Either way you're not two years late, you're just early to the part where everyone pretends they always said it.
