Called a $12 fidget spinner a "stim toy" in a group chat and got a 20 message lecture
So I dropped the term "stim toy" in my group chat last Tuesday as a joke about my old fidget spinner, and my friend Maya went off for 20 messages about how that phrase blew up on TikTok and now means something way more specific than a toy you spin. I honestly thought I was being current, turns out I was about 2 years behind on that one. It got me thinking about how fast a word can change meaning online before most of us even catch up. What terms have you used thinking you were hip only to find out they already moved on?
