Vent: That accountant who lectured me about tracking every coffee receipt

He spent 10 minutes showing me how his $4.50 daily coffee added up to $1,642 a year in lost deductions, and I finally realized I had been leaving free money on the table every single quarter - has anyone else had a random conversation completely change how they handle small expenses?

Drove me crazy when I first heard it too but the guy was right. Started keeping a little notebook in my truck for every single receipt after that conversation. I got an extra $1,200 back the first year just from small stuff I used to throw away. That coffee receipt thing is real, it feels dumb but it adds up way faster than you think. Now I even save the ones from gas station snacks, every little bit counts when you see it all at tax time.

My buddy started doing this after his accountant friend guilt-tripped him about it at a barbecue. He'd been throwing away gas station receipts for years and when he finally added them up it came out to almost $400 in write-offs just from road trip snacks. Now he's the guy who asks for a receipt when he buys a pack of gum, which feels ridiculous but the math works out.

Funny how one little change like that makes you start questioning all your other habits too.
