Switched from spreadsheets to a $20 ledger book, my books finally make sense
I ran a small side hustle selling handmade stuff online for like 2 years and kept everything in Excel. Thought I was being smart with formulas and color coding, but every tax season was a nightmare piecing together PayPal fees, supply costs, and mileage. Last month I grabbed a simple columnar ledger from Staples for 20 bucks and started writing every single transaction down by hand at the end of each day. Took maybe 10 minutes a night, but now I can literally see my cash flow at a glance without opening 6 tabs. The physical act of writing made me notice a $14 recurring subscription I forgot about for 8 months, that's over $110 down the drain. Has anyone else ditched digital tools for something dumb and basic and ended up way more on top of things?
