Rant: My freelance client ghosted me after I sent the invoice for $1,200
Spent 2 weeks on a website redesign for a small bakery in Austin. Got constant messages at first, then silence. Sent my invoice last Tuesday, and now it's been 8 days with no reply. No emails returned, no calls answered. How do you guys handle clients who disappear after the work is done? Do you send a final warning or just eat the loss?

Build on what blakem37 said about tracking them down, that's exactly the move too many people skip out of fear of being rude. Send a final email with a clear deadline like 7 days before you take it to small claims court, sometimes that jolts them into paying just to avoid the hassle. The ones who ghost usually figure it's easier to dodge than to face the awkward conversation, so making it slightly more uncomfortable for them to ignore you than to pay up is the whole game.

Had a client pull the same thing after I rebuilt their whole ecommerce site. Took me three months to track them down through a friend of a friend. They paid eventually but it was a nightmare. Some people just don't get that we have bills to pay too.

And after all that work they still act like you're the bad guy for wanting what they owe you.
