Paid $600 for a 'professional' business plan and it was basically useless

Everyone says you gotta hire a pro to write your business plan if you want funding. I dropped $600 on some guy recommended by a local small biz center and got back a 15 page template filled with generic stuff anyone could google. Total waste of money because investors asked me questions that weren't even in that plan. Has anyone actually gotten funding with a plan they paid for or is it all just a scam?

Man, $600 for a template... I paid $500 once for a "business coach" who ended up just telling me to "network more" and charged me for the privilege. Guess my networking skills are about as solid as my business plan writing skills... which is to say I'm great at making things sound fancy on paper but terrible at actually making money. At least you got a 15 page template, I got a one page checklist that started with "have a good idea" and ended with "profit". Professional help is like my diet plan - looks good on the shelf but doesn't actually do the work for you.

Ever actually ask that business center guy for his track record? I paid $400 for a marketing plan once and the guy had never run a business himself. Just sat behind a desk and googled stuff. You're better off reading a few good books and doing it yourself.
