My QuickBooks file corrupted right before tax day

Two days before my taxes were due, I opened my QuickBooks and got a file error I'd never seen before. I spent about $150 on a data recovery service out of Portland to try and salvage it, which worked but cost me a whole evening. Anyone have a better system for backing up their books that isn't just hoping the software doesn't break?

Portland for data recovery? That's wild.

Doesn't it feel like everything breaks right when you need it most?

Ugh, that's the worst timing. Honestly, I'd be freaking out. So you're just saving the file on your computer's hard drive right now? That's playing with fire. You gotta get it off that single machine. What about setting it up to auto-save a copy to something like Google Drive or Dropbox every single day? Or even an external hard drive you plug in once a week.
