My card reader died at a farmers market in Boise and I had to write down 14 card numbers on a napkin
Last Saturday the chip reader on my Square terminal just froze up around 10am right when the breakfast rush hit, and I had no cash box because I always trust the machine. I ended up scribbling names and the last 4 digits of each card on a napkin, then spent Sunday morning manually typing $340 worth of charges while praying nobody disputed them. Does anyone carry a paper backup system anymore, or am I the only one who learned this lesson the hard way?

Oh man, been there! I keep a little notebook and one of those old school knuckle busters in my truck now, saved me twice when the wifi went down at my booth.
