Does Bootstrapping Beat Investors or Just Slow You Down? 3 Years In

Three years ago my partner and I turned down a $50k offer from a local angel group in Cleveland to keep full control of our shop, but now we're stuck doing every job ourselves while a competitor who took money is in two states. We're profitable but growing slow, and I keep wondering if that stubbornness was smart or just stupid. Anyone else pick one path and second-guess it hard after seeing the other side?
