Can we talk about the time a client's check bounced right after I'd paid my two part-timers in cash?
I was at my shop in Tacoma last month when my bank called to say the $1,200 check from a regular was no good, forcing me to cover the payroll shortfall from my own emergency fund, which was way tighter than I'd ever admit to them.

Hold on but @seth683 is kinda right though - if you pay employees in cash before a check clears, that's on you, not the client who bounced it. Isn't that just bad business timing on your end?

Man that is the absolute worst feeling. I had a contractor ghost me after a big job and the check they mailed was just empty promises. It left me scrambling to make rent because I'd already bought all the materials up front. The stress of calling your own bank to explain is just a different kind of embarrassment. It really makes you second guess being flexible with people you thought you could trust.
