Simpler layouts beat artistic spreads every time for me

At a bullet journal meetup in Portland last spring, a woman in her 60s named Ruth showed me her journal that looked almost blank - just dates and tiny check marks. She said "I only track what keeps me honest, not what looks pretty on Instagram." Has anyone else found that keeping it bare bones actually helps you stick with it longer?
