Met someone at a craft fair who showed me her 10 year old journal
I was at a local craft fair last Saturday and saw this older lady selling handmade bookmarks. She pulled out her bullet journal from 2014 and it was so worn the spine was held together with tape. She said she still uses the original index system from the book, never changed a thing.

You know, I used to be the opposite way about journaling. I always thought starting fresh each year was the way to go, kept things tidy and new. But seeing how you and Troy both stick with the same book for years, that actually makes a lot of sense now. There's probably a real satisfaction in watching that spine wear down over time, like proof you actually used it. I can see how having everything in one place would make it easier to look back on patterns too. Might have to try that approach myself with my next journal, your mileage may vary but it sounds better than what I've been doing.

I started doing something similar with my own journal back in 2017. I kept the same index and just added new years at the end instead of starting fresh. It got pretty beat up after a while but I liked having everything in one place. The spine on mine is pretty rough too but I just keep it in a zipper pouch now. There's something nice about seeing how consistent you can be with the same system over years.
