TIL turning down the AC at night saves $40 a month

My electric bill jumped $60 in July, so I set the thermostat to 78 at night instead of 72. After two months it dropped by $40, and I barely noticed the difference.

Ngl I used to just crank it to 68 at night no matter what. I thought colder was always better for sleeping and anything over 70 would kill my power bill. But after reading this and seeing the actual numbers, I'm starting to reconsider. My last bill was $85 and I bet I could knock a chunk off that just by bumping it up a few degrees while I'm passed out. Might have to try that fan trick too.

I did the same thing with my AC last summer after my bill hit $85. I went from 74 to 78 at night and it saved me about $35 a month. The first few nights felt kind of warm but after a week I got used to it. A ceiling fan on low made it way more bearable. You can get a cheap programmable thermostat too and set it to bump up just while you sleep.

Read somewhere 78 is actually the most efficient temp for most units.
