The $3 tip a cashier in Des Moines gave me about price matching

I was at a grocery store in Des Moines last month and the cashier noticed I was buying store brand cereal. She leaned in and whispered that the store matches any local competitor's price, even on sale items, as long as you show the ad on your phone. I never knew that was an option and it saved me $12 on that one trip alone. Has anyone else had a cashier share a secret policy like that?

Actually most grocery stores have had price matching for years, it's just that they don't advertise it because they want you to pay full price. Did they actually show you the policy in writing or was it just a whisper from the cashier?

Yeah @hugoh55 is right, I've gotten price matches at four different stores just by asking the cashier nicely.
