That $50 emergency fund I scoffed at saved my car last month
I was stuck at a gas station in Tacoma with a dead alternator and zero buffer, so I had to beg my brother for a loan 40 miles away. Now I keep $100 in my glovebox after realizing shame is a stronger motivator than pride. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way?

My brother still brings up the time I had to call him crying from a 7-Eleven parking lot because my card got declined for a burger. Now I stash an extra $50 in my sock drawer for emergencies, and I finally stopped treating my checking account like it was bottomless. What really clicked for me was setting up a separate savings account with automatic transfers, even if it's just $10 a week. It feels way less painful than scrambling for cash when something breaks. That shame is real though, but having a tiny buffer honestly makes me sleep better at night.

I read that even a small emergency fund changes your brain chemistry around money.

Oh man, the sock drawer hack is genius. I started putting $20 in a different envelope every paycheck, and after a few months I had like $300 stashed without even feeling it. That first time my car needed a random repair and I didn't have to panic was honestly life changing.
