Switched to cash envelopes for groceries back in March and it finally clicked
I was always overspending by $50-$80 per trip even with a list, so I tried pulling out $300 in cash every two weeks and now I stick to it without fail. Has anyone else had luck with a physical system over apps?

That label thing is actually smart, my mom used to do similar with just two envelopes for "food" and "fun" and it worked way better than any app ever did for her.

My aunt did this for years but she went one step further and actually labeled her envelopes by store instead of just "groceries" - one for Walmart, one for the farmers market, one for the bulk store. She said it stopped her from blowing her whole budget at one place because she knew she had to save some cash for the other stops later in the week. I thought that was smart because you really see where your money is leaking when you have to physically move bills between envelopes for each trip. The physical act of handing over actual cash makes you pause in a way that tapping a card never does.
