Swapped out daily coffee shop runs for a french press last month
I was spending like $60 a week at the local roaster downtown, and now I'm at like $18 for a bag of beans that lasts two weeks. The press was $25 on sale and honestly the coffee tastes better. Has anyone else had success switching up one daily habit like that?

Oh man, congrats on making the switch! That's a solid move. I did the exact same thing about six months ago and honestly it's one of the best changes I've made. My wallet definitely thanked me, and yeah, the taste is way better once you get the grind right.
It's crazy how those little daily costs add up without you even noticing. I was shocked when I added up what I was spending each month. Now I actually look forward to making coffee at home, it feels more like a ritual than just grabbing something on the go.
Stick with it, you won't regret it.

Once you get the grind right" really stuck with me because I used to roll my eyes at people who acted like homemade coffee could ever be as good as the shop stuff. But I finally caved and bought a decent grinder a few months back and now I get it. It's not just about saving money, the whole process actually makes a better cup.

I dropped $300 on a burr grinder last year and honestly I kinda regret it. Like yeah the coffee is fine but I think people overhype how much difference it actually makes. I've had pourovers at my buddy's place where he uses a blade grinder and I couldn't tell you which was which in a blind taste test. The real game changer for me was just getting fresh beans from a local roaster and using water at the right temp. Half the time I'm in a rush anyway so I'm not sitting there adjusting my grind size like some sort of coffee scientist. I'm glad it works for you but for me it felt like a solution to a problem I didn't really have.
