Rant: Our furnace died in the middle of January and I had to drain the emergency fund
Last Tuesday the temp dropped to 10 degrees and my furnace just quit on me at 3 AM. The repair guy quoted $2,800 for a new blower motor and control board which wiped out half my savings. Has anyone else had a big repair blow up their budget like this?

Why not just run a space heater and save the cash for something that actually matters?

save the cash for something that actually matters" - the thing is, a lot of those budget space heaters are fire hazards if you leave em on overnight or while youre gone. I'd rather spend a bit more on a quality unit than wake up to smoke alarms.
