Pro tip: the week I stopped buying coffee on the way to work saved my car
Last week my car died in the Wendy's parking lot on Route 1, and I had $47 in my checking account until Friday. The mechanic said $310 for a new fuel pump, and I just sat there laughing because I had been buying a $4.75 cold brew every single morning at the drive thru for like two years. I got a refund check from my old insurance that I forgot about, $212, and that plus the $47 got me through it, but it was too close. So I did the math on the coffee and it was about $120 a month, which is dumb when I have a coffee maker sitting on my counter. I started making it at home the night before and putting it in a thermos, and I've got $89 in a jar in my kitchen from the past three weeks. Yeah it tastes worse, I don't care, I'm not doing the panic thing in a fast food lot again. Has anyone else figured out which of their small daily buys was secretly the one wrecking them?
