My grocery bill in Phoenix dropped by $40 last month after I stopped buying pre-cut fruit

I was at the store and saw the price for a small container of watermelon cubes, it was almost $7. I bought a whole watermelon for $5 instead and spent 10 minutes cutting it up at home. Did the same with pineapple and cantaloupe. It felt silly at first, but the savings added up fast. Anyone else find a simple switch like this that cut their weekly costs?

My local Kroger marks down whole chickens to 99 cents a pound every Tuesday, so I roast one for dinner and use the carcass for soup stock.

Found the same deal at my store last month. I roasted mine with lemon and garlic, turned out really juicy. The leftover bones made a great simple broth for rice the next day.

rubyk86 that lemon and garlic combo is solid, I do the same thing with mine. Last Tuesday I snagged one for $3.17 at my Kroger and it was insanely good. I get that the stock part is where the real value is though, one chicken can give you two meals plus broth for the week. It's honestly such a smart move, especially right now with prices everywhere else being wild. I roasted mine with rosemary and onion last time and the kitchen smelled amazing for hours. Simple stuff like this just hits different when you know you're not wasting anything.
