TIL hostel loyalty programs are actually worth it

I always thought hostel rewards were a gimmick until I stayed at a HI hostel in Chicago for 5 nights and the front desk guy handed me a free night card. Turns out I had enough points stacked from 3 trips to cover a whole night in Boston last month. Anyone else actually use those things or just let them expire?

Jumped on that too after my first HI stay actually... I had points from a couple hostels in New York and one in San Francisco and got a free night in New Orleans out of it. Not huge savings but it felt like a nice little bonus, especially since I was gonna book there anyway. I just check their app before booking now to make sure I'm using the same account.
