Spent $40 on packing cubes and they actually saved my back on a 3-week trip through Japan last month

I used to stuff everything loose into my backpack and ended up lugging around a 35-pound mess, but those cubes let me compress clothes into neat bricks so my bag stayed balanced and under 20 pounds - has anyone else found a cheap brand that doesn't fall apart after a few trips?

On our 2 week trip through Vietnam my backpack was a disaster until I got some cheap ones from Target for like 12 bucks. They held up fine through all the hostels and trains, no rips or broken zippers at all. I just fold my shirts into rolls and they fit perfect in the medium size ones. The cubes really do help distribute weight better, my hips were way less sore after I started using them. I even kept my dirty laundry in one of the small cubes so it didn't stink up everything else. Honestly I don't know why I waited so long to try them.

Wait, did your friend ever try those compression ones that roll up? My buddy Mike was the same way, wouldn't even think about packing cubes until his girl made him use hers for a trip to Japan. He said his whole backpack was a mess before and he'd just stuff everything in there. Tbh he swore by them after that trip, said he could fit way more in his bag and his back didn't hurt as much. Ngl it kind of cracked me up because he's the type who refuses to do anything organizing related. But he's been using the same cheap set for like three years now and they still work fine.
