Showerthought: Trains in Portugal cost less than my morning coffee run

Was booking a trip to Lisbon last week. Looked up train fares. Porto to Lisbon is like 3 euros if you book early. I spend more on a latte and a pastry. How is that even possible. Anyway got a ticket for 2.50. Have I been missing out on European rail this whole time. Anyone else find a crazy cheap route somewhere.

Haha right? I almost choked on my $5 iced latte when I saw those train prices. Seriously though, how is a high speed train cheaper than a basic breakfast. It feels like the universe is playing some kind of joke on us North Americans. I did the same route last summer and paid 2.80 euros. Felt like I was stealing or something. Makes you wonder what we are actually paying for back home.

I mean, fair point, but those cheap fares are usually for the slow local trains with no AC in the summer.
