PSA: My $12 bus ticket from Mexico City to Oaxaca turned into a free tour

I mean, I was just trying to save money on a trip last month, so I booked the cheapest overnight bus I could find. The driver got lost for like an hour in the mountains before sunrise, but he pulled over at this random village market so people could use the bathroom. We all ended up getting fresh tejate drinks and pan de yema from a local baker for free because the driver knew her. Has anyone else had a travel mess-up actually lead to a cool local find?

Honestly, it sounds like you just got lucky. A driver getting lost for an hour in the dark mountains is not my idea of a fun start to a trip. I guess it worked out with the free bread, but @irismartinez, a missed train for street food is one thing, this feels like a different level of chaos. Not sure I'd trade a straight shot for a free drink after that kind of stress.
