My 'free' walking tour in Krakow involved a lot of standing in a church basement.

The guide asked for a 'suggested donation' of 50 zloty at the end, which was more than the paid tours. Anyone know a truly free one for next time?

Fifty zloty is a crazy amount for a basement tour. That's more than the official paid ones cost. They really got you with that "suggested" part.

The whole point of the suggested donation is you pay what you find fair. The guide spent over an hour down there, showing us things the official tours skip. For that kind of personal time and hidden history, fifty felt right to me. It supports the caretakers directly, not some big museum fund. Sometimes the value isn't just the ticket price.
