My cousin laughed at me for booking a hotel near the airport in Bangkok
I used to always get places right in Khao San Road because it seemed convenient, but my cousin told me I was paying triple for noise and bad sleep. Last trip I stayed near the airport for $18 a night at a place called Thong Ta Resort, and it was quiet and way easier to catch early flights. The shuttle saved me like 400 baht each way too. Has anyone else found better deals staying outside the tourist zones?

...and that's the thing that gets me, the free shuttle part. I mean, eighteen bucks a night AND they pick you up? That's basically paying you to stay there if you figure in what you'd spend on a taxi. I've stayed at places in Khao San that cost five times that and you're lucky if the front desk even grunts at you. The noise alone would drive me up a wall, hearing people party until 4 AM when you've got a 6 AM flight. Honestly, your cousin laughing at you is just jealous they didn't think of it first. People get this weird idea that you have to be right in the thick of it to have a good trip, but that's just paying for a headache.

Hold up, I mean yeah eighteen bucks is cheap but is it really that deep? Like, sometimes a noisy hostel is part of the experience, you know?

$18 a night near the airport and they had a free shuttle? That's INSANE value compared to paying triple in Khao San Road just to hear drunk tourists all night. I honestly can't believe your cousin laughed at you for making a smart move like that.
