My aunt told me to pack a sarong for hostels and it saved me on three trips
She used to travel through Southeast Asia on a shoestring and said a sarong can do everything... be a towel, a blanket, a curtain, even a skirt. I scoffed at first but tossed one into my bag before a 10 day trip through Costa Rica last year. First hostel had no shower curtain, so I used it as a privacy screen. Then at the beach in Manuel Antonio, it doubled as a picnic blanket. Has anyone else found a random item that pulls triple duty like that?

And this is exactly why I've started noticing that the most useful things in life are the ones that can adapt, not the ones built for a single purpose. It's like how a good pair of jeans can be for hiking or a night out, or how a bandana can be a head wrap, a napkin, or a bag tie. Once you start looking for things that shape-shift like that, you realize how much simpler packing and problem solving can get.

Nah, that's just extra weight taking up space for something you could've bought for a few bucks there.
