My attempt at a 'free' hotel stay in Prague three years ago backfired spectacularly
I tried the old 'ask for a late checkout, then just stay in the room' trick, but the housekeeper caught me napping at 4 PM and charged me for an extra night. Anyone have a better method that doesn't involve getting marched to the front desk?

Nah, being upfront is how you get charged full price lol. The whole point is to avoid paying extra, so you gotta be a little sneaky about it. Just don't fall asleep next time.

Just call the front desk right at checkout time.

Honestly, that trick was always a gamble. You're better off just being upfront and asking nicely for a late checkout, maybe even offer to pay a small fee. Some hotels will actually work with you if you just talk to them.

Three years ago and you're still thinking about that extra night charge? That's some serious regret. The real mistake was trying to nap, you have to stay mobile and look like you're just packing up. Hanging out in the lobby or the hotel cafe is way less risky than camping in the room.
