Kept paying $4 for airport water until I started freezing my own bottle at the hotel
Froze a full Nalgene the night before my 6am flight out of Denver and it stayed cold through security and a 4 hour layover, saving me about $12 on drinks each trip. Has anyone tried this with those collapsible bottles, or do they leak once they thaw?
Froze, waited, and saved money while the rest of us are out here buying liquid gold at gate B12. Those airport water prices should be illegal, honestly, $4 for a bottle of tap water in a fancy label. I have tried the collapsible ones and they do sweat a lot once they start to thaw, but leaking only happens if you fill them too full before freezing. Leave some room at the top for the ice to expand and you should be fine. The bigger issue is they get floppy and awkward to carry once half the ice is gone. Just double bag it in a plastic grocery sack if you are worried, that has saved my backpack more than once.
