Just counted my hostel stays this year and hit 47 nights for under $800 total

That number shocked me because I always thought hostels were sketchy and uncomfortable, but after booking through that app with the loyalty points I actually slept better than some $100 hotels I've tried, has anyone else tracked their nightly averages like this and found a similar surprise?

47 nights under 800 bucks is wild... my own hostel math looks more like a cry for help actually. I tracked mine last year and ended up paying more for one night in a fancy capsule place than you did for your whole year combined. Hostels really are hit or miss though, I've had some that were cleaner than my own apartment and others where I'm pretty sure the bedbugs had their own bunk rotation. The real savings come from the free breakfasts too, I've stuffed enough croissants in my bag to last a week.

Man that capsule place must've been in some bougie neighborhood or something... @the_thomas how much were they charging per night for that fancy spot?

It's wild how places can charge so differently for basically the same thing, I've noticed that with coffee shops too where one charges $7 for a latte and another does $3 for the same thing just a few blocks away. People will pay whatever feels normal in their area even if it makes zero sense compared to other places. Really makes you wonder how much of what we pay is just based on vibes and location instead of actual value.
