Got burned by the 'book early, always cheaper' rule in Amarillo, and now I book two weeks out
Everyone on here swears by booking flights 3 months ahead, but I got stuck in Amarillo last summer when a family thing came up and had to fly out in 5 days. The ticket was $212, which was somehow cheaper than the $260 I paid booking 4 months early for a trip to Boise. I pulled up the price tracker afterward and saw that the early fare was set during a holiday weekend, so I overpaid $48 for no reason. Now I book whenever the price looks low, not when some blog tells me to, and I set a Google Flights alert instead of locking in early. Anyone else notice that timing matters way less than we act like it does?
