Found a way to get a hotel room in Chicago for under $50 last month
I called the front desk directly around 9pm on a Tuesday and asked if they had any last-minute cancellations they could discount. They gave me a room for $45 that was listed online for $120. What's your go-to move for a cheap last-minute stay?

That's a lot of effort for a hotel room lol.

Consider the cost of one ruined day on a trip you saved up for. That "effort" is just packing a sleep mask and maybe a small white noise machine. It's cheaper than the fancy coffee you'll need to function after a bad night in a bright, noisy room.

I used to agree with you, julia_park44, until I stayed at a place that had blackout curtains and a real mattress topper. Waking up actually rested on a trip changed the whole game for me. Now I see that effort as an investment in not being a grumpy wreck for two days after I land. It turns a basic room into a place you can actually recover from jet lag.
