Compared staying in a hostel dorm vs a private room for 2 weeks in Lisbon and the dorm won by a mile
I was on a trip to Lisbon last month and figured I'd save cash by booking a dorm for 8 nights then switching to a private room for the rest. Dorm was $22 a night, private was $55. Honestly the dorm had way better vibes - met people to explore with, got tips on cheap food spots, and the private room ended up being kinda lonely and not worth the extra $33. Spent that saved money on a day trip to Sintra instead. Has anyone else found dorms better for the social aspect even when you can afford a private room?

At 52 I might be the old guy snoring in the corner, but dorms are where the stories happen.

ben_ross51 said "dorms are where the stories happen" and you're not wrong, but I gotta nitpick one thing - you said "at 52 I might be the old guy." I'm 46 and I was in a Lisbon dorm last month with a guy who had to be pushing 70. He was retired and traveling for three months straight, out-drinking everyone, and telling stories about hitchhiking in the 70s. Dorms don't really have an age limit, it's more about if you can handle the snoring and the 3am roommates stumbling in.
