Accidentally saved $80 on a round trip to Denver by booking two one way tickets on different airlines.

Was checking Southwest and Delta separately for a trip to see my sister next month and noticed the outbound was $45 on Southwest but the return was way cheaper on Delta at $62 so I just booked them separately and it ended up being $80 less than any round trip I could find, has anyone else noticed this kind of split fare happening a lot lately?
