A hostel in Prague taught me to always pack a small towel
I got to my hostel in Prague last year and they charged 5 euros to rent a towel for the whole stay. I mean, that's basically a meal right there. I had a tiny pack towel in my bag but thought it was too small to be useful. Turns out it dried fast and packed down to nothing. Now I never travel without one, even for a weekend. Anyone have other small items that saved you cash on the road?

Ugh, that hostel fee is such a scam.

Used to agree, but the cleaning costs are real.

Wait, what kind of cleaning costs are we talking about here? Like a huge fee they just take from your deposit no matter what? Because that's what it sounds like @brown.gavin is hitting on with the scam feeling. Is it just for normal wear and tear, or did they charge you for something specific that felt unfair? I've seen places try to bill for every little thing after you leave.
