Vent: My cheap rice cooker from a garage sale last month almost burned my apartment down.

The cheap plastic plug melted into the outlet after I left it on for 20 minutes to make a big batch of beans, so now I'm looking for a safe, affordable way to cook in bulk, any ideas?

That sounds terrifying, glad you caught it. Honestly, a basic stainless steel stockpot on the stove is way safer for big batches.

Agree completely, those big electric cookers can be a real hazard if you overfill them. Seen a few close calls with boiling liquid spilling onto the heating element. A heavy stockpot gives you way more control, and you can actually see what's happening. Plus, if something does go wrong, you can just yank it off the burner.

A melted plug is pretty serious, @emery_young13, not just a simple spill.
