Took me 6 months to figure out dried beans beat canned for our family of 5
I kept buying 99 cent cans at Aldi thinking I was saving money, but after tracking our grocery receipts for half a year, the 2 pound bag of pinto beans at $1.89 makes about 4 times as many meals, so has anyone else done the math on how much water weight you're paying for?

Canned beans are a different product entirely, and the convenience is worth every penny. When you're feeding five people after a long day, the last thing you want is to remember to soak beans overnight and then babysit a pot for two hours. Dry beans also need planning ahead, and with kids activities and work schedules, that planning rarely happens. Plus, canned beans are already seasoned in most cases, or at least you can see the sodium content and control it from the start. I've tried the whole dry bean thing a few times and ended up with undercooked beans or a huge batch that went bad before we ate it all. There's also the issue of your gas and electric bill going up from simmering those beans for hours, which nobody ever counts in their savings. Maybe it's just me, but I'll gladly pay for the convenience and not have to think about it.
