Shoutout to the dollar store for saving dinner last night
I was making spaghetti and meatballs around 7pm and realized I was out of garlic powder and onion powder. No way I was driving 15 minutes to the grocery store for two little spices. So I walked to the dollar store two blocks away and grabbed both for $1.25 each. Figured they'd taste like cardboard but honestly the meatballs turned out fine. My wife even asked if I added extra seasoning lol. Does anyone else low key rely on dollar store staples for weeknight dinners or is that just me being cheap?

Well hold on now... are we really acting like a dinner is ruined if you don't have garlic and onion powder? I mean, you had actual garlic and onions somewhere in the house, right? Or did you just rely on the powdered stuff as a crutch... seems a little dramatic to call it a "save" when you were probably fine anyway. Plus those dollar store spices are usually just repackaged old stock, so I wouldn't go bragging about them too loud.

lol @lindaowens calling it a "crutch" is exactly right, I've definitely been guilty of leaning on the powdered stuff when I'm too lazy to chop a real onion or garlic clove. But honestly, that dollar store old stock comment got me laughing because I grabbed a bottle of "Italian seasoning" from there once and it was basically just dust with a faint whiff of oregano.
