PSA: How lentils and bananas fixed my budget and my mood

I was having really bad mood swings last month and couldn't afford fancy food. Started cooking big pots of lentil soup from dried lentils, which cost almost nothing. Eating a bowl with some cheap bread keeps me full and calm for hours. Bananas are also super affordable and perfect for a quick snack when I feel down. This whole routine only sets me back about $15 a week. It's helped my mental health a lot without breaking the bank. Hope this idea helps someone else out there.

That big pot of lentils really does last all week.

But the math on that gets shaky fast. Even if @king.brian is just talking about lunch, dried lentils are cheap but you need onion, garlic, spices, maybe some carrots. That's easily over $15 alone before you even get to breakfast or dinner.

Wait, your whole food budget is only $15 a week? That's less than I spend on coffee.
