My roommate said "beans are boring" and I lost it

I was meal prepping on Sunday and my roommate walks in, sees my pot of pinto beans simmering, and goes "ugh beans are so boring." I didn't say anything but inside I was screaming. Like girl, I stretched that $2 bag of beans into 8 meals last week with just some onion, garlic, and a ham hock I got for $1 at the butcher. Have you ever had refried beans on a crispy tortilla with salsa? Boring is not the word. What's your go to cheap bean recipe that shuts people up?

Ngl, "bean gremlin" would absolutely be my nickname too if my roommates had any say in it. Tbh I once ate black beans straight from the can over the sink at 2am and still think it hit harder than half the meals I pay real money for. That $2 bag of pintos plus a ham hock is basically winning at life, no shame here.

Dude I literally had a whole bean phase in college where I was basically living on black beans and rice and pretending it was gourmet. My roommate called me a "bean gremlin" and honestly I wore it as a badge of honor. Pinto beans with a ham hock for $1 is next level tho, I'm taking notes.

oh man i feel this so hard. my go to was always a bag of dried lentils and whatever random veggies were on clearance at the store. i'd just throw them all in a pot with some bullion and call it "peasant stew" like i was some kind of food blogger. honestly that ham hock trick is genius though, i bet it adds way more flavor than my sad little garlic powder routine. i might have to steal that idea for my next "fancy" bean night.
