My coworker swore by buying dented cans from the discount rack at Kroger

I thought she was being cheap for no reason, but I saved $8 in one trip last week and the food was totally fine. Has anyone else tried this or is it just a weird Midwest thing?

Careful there. Dented cans can actually be dangerous if the dent is on the seam or it's a deep dent that might have let air in. Botulism is no joke. I'd say stick to cans with small dents on the body away from the edges if you're gonna try it.

yeah i get that botulism is scary but honestly the risk is super overblown for most dents. i've eaten plenty of dented cans my whole life and never had an issue. the store discounts are worth it to me, just check the dent isnt on the seam or super deep like you said. most dents are just cosmetic from dropping.

oh man my grandma used to say a little rust adds flavor LOL she'd buy the most beat up cans at the salvage store and make chili out of them. we're all still here so maybe she was onto something. that seam rule is the real pro tip though.
