I finally tried making my own bread after a bakery trip shocked me

I was at a fancy bakery downtown last month and saw a single loaf of sourdough for $8. I bought it, but it felt like such a waste. The next day I looked up a simple recipe online, got a bag of flour for $3, and just mixed it in a bowl. After a few tries, my third loaf came out perfect and costs maybe 50 cents. Anyone have other cheap staples they learned to make from scratch?

Totally get that. Made my own pasta once and it was stupid easy. Feels good to beat the system lol.

Yeah, the first time is always easy. The real test is when you try to do it again next week and the dough just fights you. In my experience, getting it to roll out thin enough without tearing is where most people hit a wall. It's still fun, but it's not always a simple win.
