Had to pick between ground turkey and lentils for taco night
I really wanted tacos but ground beef was $6 a pound so I grabbed a bag of lentils for $2 instead. Cooked them with the same seasoning and honestly they worked fine but the texture threw me off big time. Anyone else tried swapping meat for lentils in tacos?

Lentils definitely need a little help in the texture department. Try mashing half the lentils before you add them to the tacos, it gives them a more ground meat consistency that's way less weird. The flavor still comes through great with the right seasoning though.

Tried that with a little cumin and smoked paprika and it worked like a charm.

My first lentil taco night ended with me staring at my plate and asking myself if I'd accidentally become a rabbit. The texture was like eating wet sand with taco seasoning sprinkled on top. Next time I'll definitely try that mashing trick, because I'd rather not resort to closing my eyes every time I take a bite.
