Found out my pantry staples cost 40% more than store brand versions

I was checking my grocery receipts from last month and noticed I spent $12 just on name brand canned tomatoes and beans. The store brand was $7.20 for the same amounts. Has anyone else compared their usual brands to generic and found a big difference?

Bananas are my wake up call every time, I just grab the yellow ones and hope they're not the fancy kind. My wallet's been doing a lot of heavy lifting lately.

Used to think any banana was just a banana. But you're right, that sticker shock on the fancy ones is real.
