Broke my immersion blender on lentil soup last night

Was making a big batch of red lentil soup to stretch groceries for the week and the plastic shaft just snapped clean off mid-blend. Anyone found a sub $30 blender that doesn't give out after three months?

oh man i got the same exact problem a few months ago. read somewhere that the main reason those cheap blenders break is the plastic coupling joint strips out from the heat and torque. i grabbed a cuisinart smart stick for like 25 bucks at target, the one with the metal shaft, and it's been fine so far even with thick soups. just make sure whatever you get has a stainless steel shaft, plastic ones are basically disposable.

nah @avery_lopez i gotta disagree on this one. plastic couplings can be annoying but they actually work fine if you're not running the blender for 10 minutes straight. my $12 harbor freight special is still kicking after 2 years because i just do short bursts. metal shaft doesn't mean much if the motor burns out first lol.
