Visited a brick plant outside Columbus, now I get why some batches act weird

Went down to a yard in Columbus last week to grab a pallet for a patio job and the guy let me walk the plant floor. Watched them mix a run of reds and noticed the clay source switched mid shift. Same machine, same operator, but the color came out slightly off. That explained so many mystery jobs where the brick looked fine on the truck but faded or chipped weird after a season. Made me wonder, how many of you check the batch number before you lay, or just trust the pallet when it shows up?

Man, I never checked batch numbers until a whole wall pallet did that exact thing. Now I snap a pic of the tag with my phone, takes two seconds. Saves me from blaming my mortar mix when it's really the clay.
