Thought that new polymer additive was just a gimmick for mortar
A foreman in Austin swore by this stuff called FlexBond, said it cut our cold joint issues in half. I rolled my eyes until we had to do a repair on a 20 year old wall last month and the new stuff held without any weep holes. Anyone else use it on a big job and have it actually work?

My buddy in San Antonio had a crew use that FlexSeal additive on a big commercial block job. They mixed it into the mortar for the entire first floor. He said the bond test results came back 40% stronger than the spec called for. They ended up using it on the whole project.

I've had the opposite experience with those additives. They made the mix too sticky and slowed us down a lot. We just went back to doing things the old way.

Angela is totally right. We tried a similar product last summer on a brick veneer job. The mortar got so gummy it was a nightmare to clean off the bricks. It added nearly an hour to our clean up every single day. The bond might be stronger on paper, but it kills your pace on the wall. Sometimes the old way is just faster and cleaner.
