Saw a crew in my town mixing mortar with way too much water, it's a real problem.

I mean, the mix was basically soup and they were still trying to lay with it. That stuff will shrink and crack like crazy once it dries. Anyone else notice this happening more often?

Seems a bit dramatic. It might not be perfect but it'll probably hold up fine. People worry too much about this stuff.

Ever think about the long-term wear you can't see? @willow114, that "probably fine" mindset is how my neighbor ended up with a slow leak inside his wall for months. By the time the stain showed on the ceiling, the repair bill was huge because of all the hidden rot and mold. It's not about being dramatic, it's about the cost and mess of fixing a small problem that's been quietly getting worse for a year.

Oh man, that's exactly how you get a weak bond. It's not just about cracking later, a soupy mix won't grip the bricks right from the start. The water ruins the chemistry so it never gets as strong as it should. It might look okay for a bit, but it's a shortcut that always shows up later. You were right to notice it.
