My cousin tried to help on a simple repair and used pancake batter as mortar

Had to explain that not every thick paste is building material. The whole crew still gives him a hard time about it.

Last week, a podcast discussed using cake frosting as plaster. They said it smells great but fails in damp air. Pancake batter as mortar would probably just wash away in the rain. The host called it edible but entirely useless for real repairs.

Couldn't it work for quick indoor fixes?

What about attracting bugs though? Even indoors, you'd probably get ants or something in the walls. Seems like a short cut that causes a bigger problem.
